One .mage file holds your project. A folder of them is your library.

The .mage file#

Your whole project in one file: canvases, layers, brushes, imported images and audio. Copy it, move it, email it. Nothing else to keep track of.

Video files are the exception. They stay where they are on disk. Keep them next to the project.

A new document is ready to paint on before you save. Magerie backs up every 30 seconds, and after a crash the next launch offers your latest work back.

Your library#

A folder of .mage files whose brushes, images, and subgraphs show up in every project.

  • macOS: ~/.magerie/user-library/
  • Windows: %USERPROFILE%\.magerie\user-library\

Make the folder, then Save As any document into it. Or drop .mage files in. Rename or delete the files to curate. Open User Library in the title bar's ... menu gets you there.

Use an item#

Open the Omni menu (Tab) and press Tab again for its Library tab. What is already in this document, your library, and the Magerie Library that ships with the app. Click to bring one in:

  • Brush: joins the picker for this document.
  • Image: lands as an Image node.
  • Subgraph: lands as its own copy.

Items are copied into the document, so the file stays self-contained.
