Video

Import clips, cut them on a timeline with audio and transitions, export.

Video is nodes too. A clip is a node, the timeline is a node, the export is a node. Everything on the board can feed a clip, and every clip can feed a filter.

Magerie Draft has Video Monitor and Video Exporter, enough to play and export a Flipbook or Timelapse. Importing clips and the Timeline are Magerie only.

Import#

Drop an .mp4, .mov, .m4v, or .mkv on the board. It lands as a Video Proxy. The file stays on disk, not inside your document. Hover to preview and scrub.

Big files? Click Optimize on the node and pick 240 to 720p for a light editing copy. Export always uses the original.

Drop an .mp3, .m4a, .wav, or .aac for an Audio Source. Audio is embedded.

Play#

Wire any video into a Video Monitor. Play, pause, scrub, timecode, preview volume. The Timeline has no play button of its own: the Monitor drives it.

The Timeline#

Add a Video Timeline. Lanes stack bottom to top, any clip kind on any lane, audio always mixes.

  • Add a clip: Alt-drag a Video Proxy or Audio Source node onto the timeline. It wires itself.
  • Edit: click to select, drag to move, drag an edge to trim. Snapping is on. F zooms to the clip. Delete removes it.
  • Right-click a clip: Split at Playhead, Merge with Next, Add Dissolve to Next, Detach Audio, Delete Clip, Ripple Delete.
  • Right-click a lane's gutter: Add Track Above, Add Track Below, Remove Track. The M and S buttons on each lane mute and solo it.

The Inspector badge on the title shows the selected clip: Start, Duration, Speed, Fit (Fit, Fill, Stretch, Source), Scale, Rotation, Opacity, Fade In / Out, Volume, and a Filters slot for a look from the board.

Transitions#

A wedge sits where two clips meet on a lane. Click it: Dissolve, a duration, or any custom transition from your board. A custom transition is a subgraph with two image inputs and a progress number input. Drag the wedge to re-time it.

Dissolve needs unused media at the end of the left clip. Trim its right edge in first.

Composition#

The gear badge sets the frame: 16:9, 9:16, 1:1, 4:5, or custom, at 2160p, 1080p, or 720p, and the frame rate.

Export#

Wire the Timeline (or any video) into a Video Exporter. Pick a Preset (YouTube 4K, YouTube 1080p, Social 1080p, Draft 720p; Default resets) or set Resolution, Frame Rate, Format (MP4, MOV, GIF, PNG Sequence) and Codec (H.264, HEVC). Press Export. Mixed audio is included. MOV, and the HEVC (Alpha) codec that forces it, are macOS only.
